Customer Service at its best!

Today I had to attend a meeting at a private company (In the Financial Service Sector). I arrived on time and tried to park the vehicle in front of the allocated Parking Lot. In a few minutes walks the Security Guard saying "This slot is for the Building Owner". So I tried to park it in another slot and the guy says, "This slot is for the next door company (Cannot mention Names). This really made me annoyed and I asked where the heck they want me to park? Then he replies saying I need to take the back road and park at some other park.

I raised my voice and said I was to meet the GM of the particular company who told me parking is available (Which was true!). By this time the foreign parties who were to join with me had parked the Hilton hired vehicle and I mentioned that they are for the same meeting. Finally I was so annoyed I thought I will make a huge complaint and decided to try the other car park which the guy mentioned. I suddenly noticed a board in an empty slot which said "Reserved for {the name of the company}". I really lost my temper and asked the guy "What does that board mean and cannot I park there!" Finally he allowed me to park and I walked out of the place to the building (Of course in a VERY HAPPY MOOD :@).

On my return the guard wasn't there and the lady guard who was watching the whole incident early was Around. I proceeded to take the exit gateway and realised no one opening the gate and from my rear mirror noticed that the lady Security guard turning the other way pretending she didn't see me. I had no choice but to reverse to the entrance gate and asked "Why no one opens the exit gate!"

She said "That is operated by the next door company and they open it only for their customers!" !@#%$#%^#&*~

Now that is when a customer feels "WOW, ISN'T it GREAT? What an excellent service!" I returned office thanking myself for not being a customer of that companyand promised myself I will never endorse the company or the products.

"This explains how a Gatekeeper can chase business out of the company!" This is not my first experience and  will not be the last or sure!

Please share similar Experiences!

Win the Sale by Winning Your Customer's Heart - Management Tip of the Day - July 29, 2010 - Harvard Business Review

Customers are far more likely to purchase a product or service if they feel valued by the person selling it. Underappreciated customers will look elsewhere to make their purchase. Reach out to your customers and make sure they know how important they are to you. Give them the opportunity to meet as many of your staff as possible, all the way up to the CEO. Thank them for their business and ask them to tell you about their company. When you create an emotional connection with them, they are more open to hearing what you have to offer, and much more inclined to purchase. This needs to be a genuine connection, however; your overtures shouldn't be phony or insincere.

Should Online Newspapers charge the readers?

The online newspaper industry has decided to make profit by charging the readers. They believe that the sales drop of the printed newspapers has resulted due to the free accessibility of the online newspapers. Also, the belief is that the readers are willing to pay. Times being the first to implement this others are expected to follow soon. Is this true with the Asian Countries?

My opinion is that the Newspaper Industry has to find alternative ways to generate revenue through interactive and innovative methods of advertisements and sponsorships and charge the readers who would not perfer to get exposed to the clutter. What is your opinion? Please comment....

What should I Write?

Creating a blog is very easy compared to thinking of what to write. A day is over and actually it is a new day today. A Saturday that I experience from the Friday by staying awake. Went online to do some basic FB stuff. In the process of checking videos, I came across some amazing talents from a YouTube Channel - Kurt Hugo Schneider The MJ medley and Firefilies songs really inspired me leading to checking their College Musical.

The next half of the day was completed with some daily chores and back to some stuff on my Lecture plan. So here I am trying to signoff for the day! Happy SATURDAY!

Importance of Digital Marketing in todays context!

We live in a world where time is optimized on a daily basis reducing the time spent on traditional media such as Television, newspaper and Radio. Television is watched whilst we read the newspaper or whilst we work on the laptop, the radio is listened to whilst we jog or whilst we drive. Media reach is no more a parameter for accountability but time allocated on media is rather to be thought of.

However sophistication of technology has led todays consumers to use several digital media such as social networks and electronic devices. We carry our blackberry all over the place and is kept next to the pillow at nights, Facebook is a sure stop during a days busy schedule, the RSS feeds and other Web 2.0 features brings the latest news we want including news from the local online news papers and Youtube helps us to release the pressure of the day by enjoying the home made video of a cute baby of 2 who points out any country on the Atlas. The launch of the iPad will take convenience to the next possible level with a possible extinction of the laptop and the introduction of IP TV with multiple interactive features will kill the traditional TV.

We as marketers spend considerable time on our Strategic Marketing Plans. We prepare a complicated Communication Plan with millions of money to be spent over the next 12 months. Have we ever questioned the effectiveness of the money we spend? Are we spending over media that is not exposed the way we want?

The Diploma in Digital Marketing offered by the CAM Foundation has hence devised an excellent programme which introduces marketers to this new Digital world creating the expertise required to develop your organizations Accountable Digital Marketing Plan. Synergy School of Marketing is the only Institute in Sri Lanka who would produce the required Digital Marketers for tomorrow’s organizations.

What do you do when you make a decision on marking an assignment?

When the draft assignment submission deadline is given and students submit it after the deadline but a day before the final assignment submission deadline what do you do?

The correct procedure is not to sign-off as the Draft assignment deadline was not met.

But if the student had informed of the delay and valid reasons were provided for missing it?
Go ahead, and mark it if it is a genuine problem.

If the students were silent till the last hours and then submits it  then what do you do?
This is the problem I am facing. Students submit it at the last moment expecting the lecturer to provide feedback hours before the deadline, this puts the lecturer in to a real fix.
